Definition & Epidemiology:
• Uncommon, typically low-grade CNS tumors
• Accounts for ~2% of primary intracranial tumors
• Most common in children and young adults
Key Characteristics:
• Long-term epilepsy-associated tumors
• Predominantly found in temporal lobes (70%)
• WHO grade 1 tumor, with ~5% showing higher-grade features
Imaging Features:
• Variable appearance:
o ~45% show cystic mass with enhancing mural nodule
o Can present as solid mass expanding gyrus
o Calcification common (~35%)
o CT: iso/hypodense with variable enhancement
o MRI: T1 iso/hypointense, T2 hyperintense, variable enhancement
o Minimal peritumoral edema
