Discussion Enlarged superior cervical sympathetic ganglion (SCSG) can mimics a metastatic retropharyngeal lymph node after radiation therapy in the patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).
It is normal structure that
- mostly located medial to the internal carotid artery (ICA), lateral to the longus capitis muscle
- between the C2 and C4 vertebrae.
- characteristically homogeneous with high signal intensity on T2WI
DDx. Metastatic LN
- Intraganglionic hypointensity
- homogeneous enhancement pattern
- well-defined margins
