| Discussion | Pilocytic astrocytoma - Low-grade, relatively well-defined astrocytomas that tend to occur in young patients (WHO grade I tumors) - Only one-third of patients are older than 18 years of age and only 17 % are older than 30 years of age. # Image findings - Variable image findings; 1) large cystic component with a brightly enhancing mural nodule(67% with non-enhancing [21%] or enhancing cyst wall [46%]), 2) heterogeneous, mixed solid and multiple cysts and central necrosis (16%) and 3) completely solid (17%) - Enhancement is almost invariably present (~95%). - Up to 20% may demonstrate some calcification. |
