Discussion Giant cell tumor with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst of temporal bone

Definition:
Benign intraosseous neoplasm arising from multinucleated giant cells

Imaging findings:
- CT
--Expansile intraosseous soft tissue mass with thinned surrounding cortical shell
--Thin surrounding cortical margin
-- Overlying cortical shell may be focally dehiscent
--Occasional scant matrix calcification
- MRI
--T2WI: Mixed iso- to hyperintense, but occasionally diffusely hypointense (due to hemosiderin, calcification), markedly hypointense rim
--Post-contrast T1WI: Marked enhancement, hypointense rim & prominent internal enhancement

Differential diagnoses:
Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC)
Chordoma/Chondrosarcoma
Fibrous dysplasia
Plasmacytoma
