| Discussion | Definitions: -Arachnoid cyst of the fallopian canal or geniculate ganglion area is a rare entity whose frequency is probably underestimated. -More frequent in obese or middle-aged female -In some cases, CSF leakage in the middle ear and mastoid is revealed, or some cases can be associated with bacterial meningitis. Or, some may be asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. -The facial nerve is usually accompanied by an arachnoid structure from the fundus of the internal auditory canal to the geniculate ganglion area. These arachnoid CSF‐filled structures can grow and lead to the formation of cysts with or without CSF leakage. This high‐risk anatomical abnormality can result in an osteo‐meningeal breach. -A combination of CT scan and MRI allows the diagnosis of arachnoid cyst of the fallopian canal, can be used to rule out other confounding diagnoses and provides all essential preoperative information. -No systematic surgery is needed for arachnoid cysts of the fallopian canal that have no CSF leak. |
