Tissue expander
-Tissue expanders are routinely used in a variety of reconstructive procedures.
-The expanders allow the tissue to stretch prior to definitive reconstruction surgery in the region such as breast, head and neck, and chest wall.
-The expansion has a relatively low complication rate. The incidence of device failure or rupture during expansion is rare (0~1.6%).
-But, multiple potential etiologies for the rupture have been reported including trauma, over-expansion, capsular contracture, compressive force, and iatrogenic rupture during the process of filling the expander.
