| Discussion | EV 71: Cause HFMD (hand-foot-and-mouth disease) and herpangina Enteroviral encephalomyelitis is the most common neurological complication of enterovirus infection. MR Findings Bilateral symmetric T2/FLAIR hyperintensities in central midbrain, posterior medulla and pons, bilateral dentate nuclei, ventral roots of spinal cord. The dorsal aspect of the pons (pontine tegmentum) is the most common site of brainstem involvement. Cervical spinal cord signal anomalies can also be identified, with increased T2 signal throughout the entire spinal cord grey matter. |
