| Discussion | • Diagnosis: Encephalocele through right Sternberg's canal. • Reported in up to 4% of adults • Incomplete closure of sphenoidal sinus • abnormal lateral craniopharyngeal canal connecting the middle cranial fossa and sphenoidal sinus • may cause CSF rhinorrhea, meningocele, or encephalocele with temporal lobe herniation • Especially, in the presence of lateral recess of sphenoid sinus (SS), • Sternberg’s canal can communicate with SS after its pneumatization • Possible origin of encephalocele • Most common manifestations • Asymptomatic • CSF rhinorrhea • Chronic headache, seizure, vertigo • Recurrent meningitis • Persistent CSF leak is potentially lethal • Open intracranial or endoscopic trans-sphenoidal approaches may be considered for repair |
