Discussion Neurocutaneous melanosis


Diagnosis of Neurocutaneous melanosis (NCM)
- Large or multiple congenital melanocytic nevi
- benign or malignant proliferation melanocyte at leptomeninges

Skin lesion of Neurocutaneous melanosis
- 2.5 – 11% in patients with giant congenital nevus
- 2/3 pts : giant melanocytic nevus in lumbosacral region
- 1/3 pts : small numerous melanocytic nevus without large nevus
- Large, congenital melanocytic nevi in a posterior axial location with ‘satellite’ melanocytic nevi  greater risk for the development of neurocutaneous melanosis

Neurologic symptoms
- usually occur around age 2
- progressive and rapid fatal neurologic symtoms
- 2/3 patients show symptoms of hydrocephalus
- spinal cord involvement : myelopathy, radiculopathy, bowel or bladder dysfunction
