result from the failure of fusion of the lateral halves of the vertebral body because of persistent notochordal tissue between them
location: thoracolumbar most common
imaging findings:
scoliosis (+/-)
sagittal or coronal vertebral clefts
D/Dx vertebral fracture
Pathologic or traumatic : history critical
Noncorticated irregular fracture margins +/- soft tissue edema, cord injury
Associated abnormalities
Dysraphism, split notochord syndrome (diastematomyelia, syrnx, tethered cord, fatty filum, congenital tumor, visceral organ anomalies)
